The Most Exciting Teams to Watch This Season

Welcome back! This week’s post will focus on some of my favorite teams to watch so far this year. This is not a power rankings, but a ranking of my favorite teams to watch this season. These rankings will consist of teams with fun storylines, players, offenses and defenses. These may not be the best overall teams but the teams that keep me on the edge of my seat on Sundays. Keep in mind that this is completely my opinion and you are welcome to disagree, that’s why we have freedom of speech.

Also for the purpose of this list, I also decided to not go with any heavily favored playoff teams/championship contenders like the Chiefs, Bills, Eagles etc. As they are obviously fun to watch, but because you expect them to win games.

Before we start with the rankings, I feel it is right to point out that the Steelers still suck… and the 180 million dollar defense can’t stop a nose bleed… embarrassing.

Alright, lets kick this off with two honorable mentions for some of my favorite teams to watch so far this season.

HM- San Francisco 49ers
The Niners are showing off how important depth is this year. It seems like every week more and more people are getting injured adding on to a list that includes Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, Brandon Aiyuk and Franchise QB Brock Purdy. Despite all of the injuries, the 49ers have been able to keep a modest 5-3 record and are only a half a game back in the NFC west. Seeing Kyle Shanahan and Mac Jones constructing and offense with a group of cast-off wide recievers and Robert Saleh scheming a relatively young defense to modest numbers is the definition of fun, but not as fun as the rest of the teams that made the list.

HM- New York Giants
The Giants were initially going to be on this list as they were the team that inspired me to make this list… however, on Sunday we saw one of the more grusome injuries of the season occur to Cam Skattebo, who will miss the rest of his rookie campaign. Now we are left with one fun loving rookie QB in Jaxson Dart left to figure it out. Dart hasn’t looked the best, but has shown the moxy and confidence it takes to lead a team with such a huge market in the Giants. And he may have saved coach Brian Dabol’s job, at least for now. Dart and Skattebo are really the only reasons to watch this team… which is why the Gmen did not make this list.

5- Chicago Bears
This team is full of fun names; rookie head coach Ben Johnson, Caleb Wiliams, Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen along with a few pretty solid defensive pieces. The biggest story this season for this team is how much can Ben Johnson get out of Caleb Williams and the rest of the offense, and so far the results have been mixed. One thing to note is that when this offense has clicked, this is one of the most fun teams to watch in the league. Williams’ development from the beginning of the season is very evident, and he looks much more comfortable then he did his rookie season. Continuing to watch his development and the rest of the fun pieces that Ben Johnson has is why this team made this list.

4- Denver Broncos
If you like watching just the 4th quarter of games, can I interest you in the Denver Broncos? Who, despite only showing up in the 4th quarter for a majority of games this season, still boasts a 6-2 record through 8 weeks this season. This team is attracted to close games, as their two losses have come by a combined 4 points.  What makes this team the most interesting to me, are the comebacks they have pitched, that to me is so exciting.

3- New England Patriots
Drake Maye might be the second coming of Tom Brady. It seems Drake Maye continues to get more and more comfortable every game this season and looks like the best QB by far from the 2024 draft. In 8 games this season, Maye has nearly doubled his TD total from last season. To go with that, the Patriots also bost a defense that ranks number 4 in points allowed this season. You could argue that they have been beating up on bad teams the last few weeks with blow victories over the Titans and Browns, but this team beat the Bills, in Buffalo. With a fairly easy schedule coming up, I can’t wait to watch Drake Maye form an MVP case for himself and for the Patriots take over the AFC east that has been dominated by the Bills.

2- Seattle Seahawks
This is a fun team. Mike Macdonald’s defense is starting to catch its strides in his second season as coach, and it appears like Sam Darnold hasn’t skipped a beat from his breakout year with the Vikings. Who would have thought Darnold’s favorite receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba would be leading the league in receiving yards, and be a front runner for Offensive Player of the year. Overall, the Seahawks have a few challenging games left on their schedule that I am excited to see play out. Including a game against the number one team on this list.

1- Indianapolis Colts
Imagine a world where Daniel Jones is leading the number one ranked offense in terms of points and yards… well guess what? We’re living in that world. Jones has resurrected his career playing in the Shane Steichen offense. Of course, we can’t put all of the Colts success on to Jones’ shoulders. Running Back Jonathan Taylor is my MVP almost halfway through the season, and its not close. Taylor, is not only leading the league in rushing yards so far this season, but has had multiple 3 touchdown performance. If he ends up winning the award (fingers crossed), this would be the first time since 2012 that a non-QB has won the award. The Colts are just fun to watch overall, the defense is playing great and the offense isn’t punting the ball much, which is exciting.
