Biggest Takeaways From Week 15

Image
What a week of football! This week had it all, we've got comebacks, unretired slingers, playoff clinching, teams eliminated from playoff contention and a team that has pulled off back to back upsets. So I thought I would react to this fantastic slate of games today. Let's start with Philip Rivers If you would have told me last week that 44 year old Philip Rivers was going to be playing a football game in the NFL I would have laughed in your face, but here we are. And Rivers actually looked pretty good for his first game back, especially considering the defense he was playing. The Colts did end up losing the game but it was not because of Philip Rivers.  Patriots vs. Bills The Patriots got out to a 0-21 lead on the bills in the first half and looked like the dominant team for the entirety of the 1st half. The Bills (for the second week in a row) had a hole to climb out of in the second half trailing 7-24. To start the second half, the Bills put up 21 unanswered points ultimately...

The Wild NFC Playoff Picture

Image
This week I would like to highlight the extremely competitive NFC playoff picture. As of now, there are 10 teams battling for the 7 playoff spots as well as no clear front runner in any division. I am going to highlight each division today and make predictions for how the NFC Playoff picture will look when everything is all said and done.  NFC East Possibly the weakest division on this list, the Eagles at 8-5 and Cowboys at 6-6-1 are in a race for the division. Both teams have proven to be extremely inconsistent with neither proving it's true supremacy. I don’t believe both teams will make the playoff as the Wild Card picture is extremely tight this year. So whoever wins the division will make the playoffs.  With the two already splitting their season series we also won’t see a late season matchup to determine the division. I predict that the Cowboys will win all 4 of their final games and end with a 10-6-1 thus winning the NFC East over the eagles who will end with a 10-7 rec...

Does This Mean Football Starts Now?

Image
The saying "the season doesn't start until after thanksgiving" (Bill Parcells, not Bill Belichick) is now in full swing, as we are starting to see the real teams step forward and the fake teams take a step back.  Today I will talk about a few headlines that still need to be answered as football has started, as opposed to what I was planning on talking about this week (again). Who's winning the AFC north? The AFC north flat out stinks this year, there's no other way to put it. After week 12 there is a tie for 1st place in the AFC north that will be broken on December 7th between the Ravens and Steelers, who are both 6-6. Both teams have looked bad (to say the least), with no real evidence that either would do much of anything in the playoffs. However, the 4-8 Bengals are getting healthy at the right time and could make a comeback for the division. Now holding tie breakers to the Ravens and Steelers, there is a real chance that the Bengals could win the division. As...

Steelers Rant Part 2

Image
Todays intention was to talk about other on the cusp playoff teams, however, this turned into a full blown Steelers rant… so maybe we'll try again next week on this topic. Enjoy my Steelers rant.  The Steelers are not going to make the playoffs (unless the Ravens also crash and burn). Sundays loss to the Bears spelled out all of the misfunction that plagues this team. Starting with Mike Tomlin, who opted not to let Chris Boswell kick a potential game tying 65 yard field goal on 4th down with less then a minute to go in the game. Instead he let his teams back up QB march out and throw another pass that gets batted down at the line. Yes, Tomlin is a future Hall of Fame head coach, but he has overstayed his welcome in Pittsburgh. Steelers fans are tired of being just good, and we can't do that without a full reset, which includes the coach. One plus side is that we have the ammunition to have a youth overhaul with the amount of draft picks we have. Better yet, Mike Tomlin would mo...

Possible QB Departures This Offseason

Image
I know we are just over the halfway point of the NFL season, but I think this is an important topic to discuss. In my eyes there are a number of QB's that could be on the move this offseason depending on how the season ends, and a few that have already carved their path to a different future.  On this list I will also include a few backup names that have a chance at fighting for a spot on a team next year. Kyler Murray Murray has all but written his ticket out the door in Arizona. Since signing his five-year $230.5 million contract, he has yet to do anything of note. His inability to build consistency and a true repour with Marvin Harrison Jr. is also a factor here. I am curious to see if Murray has played his last snap in Arizona already, or if he will have a chance to put a little bit of tape out there for a QB-needy team later in the season.  Mac Jones We finally saw Mac Jones in a Shanahan-style offense, and I'm hooked. Jones' time filling in for Brock Purdy saw a 5-3 r...

Regretting My Predictions Already

Image
Alright… so some of my bolder predictions I am now regretting from last week, and today I’m going to talk further about my thoughts for my predictions last week.  But first… my weekly Steelers rant: I never want to watch the Steelers play a football game again, but is that actually going to happen? No.  AFC South and the Colts Let’s get into one prediction that a friend of mine texted me, infuriated about: the Jaguars winning the AFC South over the Colts who in my prediction barely made the playoffs. I have two things to point out regarding this prediction.  1. The Colts schedule is challenging for the rest of the season with games against the Chiefs, Seahawks, 49ers and two games against the Jaguars. With the other two games being games against the Texans. This schedule is hard compared to the way they started the season, and I have a hard time seeing them come out of the mini gauntlet with more then 4 wins. Which would put them at 12 wins… but that leads me to my next...

We're Halfway Through the Regular Season... Here Are My Predictions

Image
I can't believe we are halfway through the regular season already… but here we are. For this weeks post I want to give my half way through the year predictions for awards, playoffs, Super Bowl and a few other bold predictions and takeaways after the midway point of the NFL season. Award Predictions Coach of the Year - Kyle Shanahan Comeback Player of the Year - Christian McCraffrey  Offensive Rookie of the Year - Emeka Egbuka Defensive Rookie of the Year - Carson Schwesinger Offensive Player of the Year - Jaxson Smith-Njigba Defensive Player of the Year - Micah Parsons MVP - Sam Darnold I will keep this part short as so far this year I feel like a lot of these are gimme picks… for instance, I think Emeka Egbuka could regress for the rest of the season and still win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. I am giving the Coach of the Year award to Kyle Shanahan for job he has done despite a very injured roster. He has found ways to win and has the niners on the brink of another play...
