Possible QB Departures This Offseason

I know we are just over the halfway point of the NFL season, but I think this is an important topic to discuss. In my eyes there are a number of QB's that could be on the move this offseason depending on how the season ends, and a few that have already carved their path to a different future.

On this list I will also include a few backup names that have a chance at fighting for a spot on a team next year.

Kyler Murray

Murray has all but written his ticket out the door in Arizona. Since signing his five-year $230.5 million contract, he has yet to do anything of note. His inability to build consistency and a true repour with Marvin Harrison Jr. is also a factor here. I am curious to see if Murray has played his last snap in Arizona already, or if he will have a chance to put a little bit of tape out there for a QB-needy team later in the season.

Mac Jones

We finally saw Mac Jones in a Shanahan-style offense, and I'm hooked. Jones' time filling in for Brock Purdy saw a 5-3 record where he put up 13 TD's to 6 interceptions. Considering he had no one to throw it to due to the injuries on the Niners offense, Jones proved he can lead an offense to wins. Depending on what a few teams due in Free Agency, I could see Jones thriving in an offense led by Mike McDaniel (more on this later) or another Shanahan-tree system in need of a QB.

Jalen Hurts

This one is a bit of a stretch, however there is a reason to believe depending on how the season plays out, the Eagles could move on from Jalen Hurts. Hurts, who has had modest stats this season, has struggled to connect with his top receiver AJ Brown, and misses a lot of wide open receivers (watch the film). Hurts could be an intriguing name to watch in the free agency cycle if this were to happen, with teams like the Jets and Raiders being possible suitors.

Tua Tagovailoa

Honestly Tua needs to retire… but I'm not his agent. It is not secret that Tagovailoa is playing for his job for the rest of the season under head coach Mike McDaniel (who is also coaching for his job, though I see McDaniel keeping his job over Tua). Tagovailoa has been incosistent, but has also proved he can run an offense when not heavily relied on. If the Dolphins moved on from Tua, I could see the Raiders, Vikings and Cardinals possibly take a flier on him.

Anthony Richardson

Richardson is the most intriguing name to me on this list. I don’t think he starts anywhere next season, however if he leaves Indianapolis, there are a few QB-gurus that could potentially be looking for a project. Some coaches I have in mind are Kevin O'Connell, Mike McDaniel (I know I'm bringing him up a lot), Kyle Shanahan (who seems to take on a reclamation project every year) and Liam Cohen (who could be looking for a replacement to the highly inconsistent Trevor Lawrence).
