Steelers Rant Part 2
Todays intention was to talk about other on the cusp playoff teams, however, this turned into a full blown Steelers rant… so maybe we'll try again next week on this topic. Enjoy my Steelers rant.
The Steelers are not going to make the playoffs (unless the Ravens also crash and burn). Sundays loss to the Bears spelled out all of the misfunction that plagues this team. Starting with Mike Tomlin, who opted not to let Chris Boswell kick a potential game tying 65 yard field goal on 4th down with less then a minute to go in the game. Instead he let his teams back up QB march out and throw another pass that gets batted down at the line.
Yes, Tomlin is a future Hall of Fame head coach, but he has overstayed his welcome in Pittsburgh. Steelers fans are tired of being just good, and we can't do that without a full reset, which includes the coach. One plus side is that we have the ammunition to have a youth overhaul with the amount of draft picks we have. Better yet, Mike Tomlin would more then likely go for at least a first round pick (given the compensation given up for Sean Payton a few years ago) if we were to trade him. So why not pursue that option?
I would also like to make sure the passing game gets some blame, as Pittsburgh's passing game boasts a 22nd league ranking in passing yards. It gets even worse, are you ready. In the past 4 games, the Steelers are 0/11 2 INTs on passes over 20 Air Yards according to Ben Fennell via X. This is due to the lack of down field options but also has to do with our yearly band-aid at the QB position, Aaron Rodgers, whose accuracy has been very subject at times this season.
This team is so inconsistent and lacks any sign of improving down the stretch with games against the Ravens (twice), Lions and Bills. I see maybe three wins on their remaining schedule which would put them at their elite mediocrity record of 9-8 (which unfortunately will be just enough for Mike Tomlin not to be fired). However, my hope is that we lose the rest of the games of the season. Why? So we can finally see real change to this team who seems to be content going 9-8 every season.
Man that felt good… anyway, what do you think the Steelers biggest issue is? Obviously I didn’t include all of the disfunction (as we would be here for a while, but I was able to highlight some of the bigger issues this team faces.
